![]() Part 2: Top 5 film editors for beginners and professionals.Part 1: What can be the best film editing software?.The quickest way to discourage a beginner is to talk them into buying things they don't need, and most people who recommend these things are usually beginners, themselves. Yes, I'm sure Lightroom has added features in their most resent versions, but some photographers still download their processed raw file, as a JPEG, and finish editing their images in Photoshop.įor about $99.00 a person can buy a stand-alone copy of Photoshop Elements and have an editing program that will do anything most photographers need to do, and no matter what anyone recommends, Photoshop is the Gold Standard.īut, remember, this is the beginner's forum, and I see no reason for a beginner to jump in to the full version of Photoshop to process/edit their images. Photoshop is much more powerful as an editor for arbitrary images in terms of photo editing, Lightroom covers most of the pretty sophisticated photographer's needs, especially the recent versions with advanced making and layers of local adjustments. Well, didn't I say that editing features have been added to Lightroom? So, naturally, Adobe advertises it as an editing tool. That's very wrong indeed it's been advertised by Adobe as an editing tool.Īnd even though Adobe has added editing features, it's not as detailed or extensive as Photoshop. ![]() ![]() Lightroom was never really designed as an editing tool, Lightroom's claim to fame is that it's non-destructive and changes you make won't affect the original image, but the same can be easily accomplished with Photoshop and much more. There just isn't much that can't be done with Photoshop. Lightroom is an option, but Photoshop (in my opinion) is better, in most ways, when it comes to actually editing/post-processing an image. What is the best software for a not-complete beginner? I have been thinking about Lightroom.
